Turning off “Additional security verification” for Office 365 users

One of the most common questions I’ve been asked about Office 365 over the past few months was whether it was possible to turn off the mandatory Additional security verification prompt that users are presented with a 14 day grace period as shown in the following screenshot:

The short answer is Yes but I would advise to put some thought towards it because the way to disable it is to disable the security defaults globally in the Azure portal as shown in the following screenshots:

You will be prompted with 4 checkboxes to enable in order to save the setting configured as disabled:

Managing security can be difficult with common identity-related attacks like password spray, replay, and phishing are becoming more and more popular. Security defaults make it easier to help protect your organization from these attacks with preconfigured security settings:

· Requiring all users to register for Azure Multi-Factor Authentication.

· Requiring administrators to perform multi-factor authentication.

· Blocking legacy authentication protocols.

· Requiring users to perform multi-factor authentication when necessary.

· Protecting privileged activities like access to the Azure portal.
